2010-2011 Year Summary

The 2010-2011 season was OUSST’s best yet. The team skated to a “Weather”-themed program which included a compilation of Rosemary Clooney’s, ‘A Foggy Day in Londontown’, Gene Kelly’s, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and the Glee version of Barbara Streisand’s ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’.

We started our season off with a bang, placing third at the Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Skating Classic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After having a rough skate at this competition the previous season and placing in the bottom half of our group, this was a huge accomplishment.

Next, we competed at the Midwestern Synchronized Skating Championships in Rochester, Minnesota where we place second, and beat undefeated long-time rival Miami University. Second place was also a personal best for us at this competition, and it was also the biggest competition we partook in this season.

Our final competition of the season was the Tri-State Synchronized Skating Competition, at which we placed first! This is huge for us as we were able to place above the only team that beat us at Midwestern Sectionals (Notre Dame).

We also skated in between periods at hockey games throughout the season and hosted several philanthropic events. We held our second annual ‘Toepicks for Tatas’ event during which we held a Midnight Meltdown skating session open to the public during Sibs Weekend. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We were also fortunate enough to host the children from the Child Development Center for the second year in a row. During this time during winter intersession the kids come for a field trip to the ice rink and members of the team teach them how to skate.

This season we have been the most successful we have ever been. We continue to be thankful for the support from Bird Arena and Club Sports and hope to be even more successful in the coming seasons.
