Fall Quarter Recap

For the first time since it's creation OUSST is thrilled to have a full roster of 16 skaters!

Welcome to our rookies,
- Brittany Claytor
- Katie Chicotel
- Parker DeWeese
- Shannon Gebler
- Morgan Naugle

On October 24th we hosted Skate for the Cure at Bird Arena, a breast cancer awareness event. Decked out in pink staff shirts we worked as skate guards, sold t-shirts, handed out rental skates, and collected admissions. Our efforts raised $395.oo for Breast Cancer Research which will be donated to an organization yet to be determined.

As OU Hockey took on Western Michigan on November 7th, we took to the ice between periods to debut our new program. Skating to the soundtrack from Slumdog Millionaire, we were thrilled to have a clean skate so early in the season. The enthusiastic response from the fans helped propel us into weeks of hard work to prepare for competition.

The Mountian State Synchro Skate on November 21st in South Charleston, WV was our first competition of the year--and our first win! The victory was especially sweet for team member Annie White, who grew up skating in South Charleston. Our president and coach were able to attend a critique with a judging panel for feedback. We will be taking their comments into consideration as we prepare for our next competition.

Since Ohio University is on quarters, classes are out until 2010. Despite our month off school we will all be returning to Athens on December 1st to prepare for the Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Classic. With 170 teams competing, 13 teams in the Open Collegiate division, it will be by far the largest competition OUSST has attended in our short history. We will take the ice December 6th, so wish us luck!

That's all for fall quarter! We've had a lot of success in the past few months and are looking forward to seeing was 2010 holds!
