This past Sunday, we had our photoshoot for this year's D1/OUSST calendar!  It was so much fun and I cannot wait to see the final result and start selling calendars!  This year, we are trying to go to Grand Forks, North Dakota for this years Mid-Westers/Pacific Sectionals.  Last year, we were unable to go to the competition in Minnesota because we could not raise enough money in time.  We hope to raise enough money in time to attend our biggest competition of the season!

Summer Update

It's been almost a full year since I last posted on this blog, and for that I do apologize.  Here is a quick recap of what happened in the 2015-2016 synchro season.

We started the year with an incredible amount of excitement and hope.  Our calendar fundraiser was a roaring success, and something we will be doing again this year.  We sold every single copy we ordered, and had we started earlier, could have probably sold even more!

We went from having two on ice practices a week to having three, which we all seemed to like.  However, after losing our coach midway through the season, and being unable to get any competition dresses (we had to contact girls from the 2013-2014 season to get back the Inception dresses.  We wore black leotards and black wrap skirts for our first competition.  It was awful.), our season slowly began to get more and more stressful.  After winter break, we all came back to intercession feeling a little defeated.  It had been a tough year.  However, after selecting Anne McBride to be our new coach, things started turning around for the better.  We were doing more as a team and learning how to overcome the hardships we had faced.  We ended our year feeling excited for the next season.

Fast forward to today, July 12, 2016.  We are slowly but surely gearing up for the new season.  Our fundraiser chair, Hannah Miller, and I have been discussing preparations for the 2016-2017 calendar.  Our coach, Anne McBride, is working diligently on coming up with a unique, sexy, mature, and WINNING program for this season.  Our vice president, Jordan Mezey, is also working to find a new apparel dealer for this season.  As for myself, I am revising our constitution, as well as putting together a binder filled with venders, hotels, restaurants, etc. that we have been to before.  Needless to say, this season is going to be great.  I look forward to updating in a few short weeks with another update!  Until then, stay cool and stay beautiful!

Welcome Back

I cannot believe summer has come and gone, and we are back in the swing of things at Bird Arena.  We have already made so many positive changes to this synchro season.

The first change is we have added a practice.  This may seem silly, but adding an extra hour each week will help us improv
e even more.  Although waking up at 6:30 for 7:30 practice can get a little demanding, we appreciate the opportunity to skate more.

We have also changed our music.  A new season calls for a new program, and this year's theme is really hip.  A mix between Charlie's Angels and James Bond, with gun shots, and yes, vocals in the music!  OUSST has never had music as unique as this.

Additionally, we have a new coach.  Mallory DeTota, a senior studying Environmental Geology has assumed the demanding role, and will (hopefully!) lead us on the road to victory.

In the past, to fundraise for competitions, travel, and lodging, we have sent emails to family and friends asking for money.  While our loved ones have been generous, we always feel awkward asking for money.  This year, in lieu of sending those letters, we have decided to put together a 2016-2017 calendar featuring the synchro team and the D1 Hockey team.  We took the photos a couple weeks ago, which was a total blast, and we are currently selling ad space to local businesses to pay for the calendars.  Here is our cover photo:

If you would like to pre order a calendar, which we will be selling for $25, please email the synchronized skating email, which is  You can also buy them at the hockey games.  Just ask any of the girls wearing a synchronized skating t-shirt.

Be on the look out for more updates!

End of the Year Post

We cannot believe this year is over!  It only seems like yesterday when I was writing this for last year.  We have had some major changes occur in the last couple weeks.

Mallory DeTota was name coach of the 2015-2016 synchronized skating year!  We are excited to have such a strong and experienced skater leading the team next year.

Meghan Noga was named president and Kaitlyn Ingraham was named vice president. Anne McBride is our new fundraising chair, Valentina Georgalas is our secretary, and Jordan Mezey is our treasure.  Lindsay Wolz remained the safety officer.

Next year, we are planning on traveling to Portland, Oregon for the Midwestern-Pacific Synchronized Skating Sectionals.  While traveling in the limo to Minnesota was, for lack of a better word, interesting, we will not be doing that next year.  Instead, we are planning on flying to Oregon!  This will be such a cool and fun experience for our team, and a great way to get our name out there.  Of course, the main concern right now is how we are going to afford those tickets!  We have come up with a pretty brilliant idea to fundraise for the trip, so keep checking back to see what we are up to!

This year, as a team, we completed over 280 community service hours!  We volunteered at hockey games, at the Athens Figure Skating Club Spring Show, at the Athens High School track meet, and so many more.  We are so proud of our accomplishments and cannot wait to give back to the community next season.

MidPac Sectionals

This past weekend, we made the 12 hour trek (and 17 hour trek back due to bad weather) to Edina, Minnesota.  We left Thursday night at 10 pm, drove through the night and made it to Edina by 11 am.

The best part?

We took a Hummer limo.  Yes, you read that right, we took a Hummer limo and while it was pretty cool, the charm went away in the 7th hour of driving.  Don't get me wrong, I've only been in limo once in my life, so this way really cool.  Needless to say, however, we will flying to Portland, Oregon for sectionals next year.

Anyway, we ended up placing sixth out of six, but oh well.  We had fun and that's all that matters.  I will hopefully try to put up some of our pictures in the slide show on this blog's homepage but I am so horrible at technology... Might take me a bit.

Please, if you haven't already, go check out our Fundly page.  At this point, given the fact we will be flying next year, it's a race to raise the money to get out there.

Our Fundly Fundraiser!

Hello all!

We have created a Fundly fundraiser which will be going on for an extended period of time.  I think it's technically supposed to end August 1st but we can extend it if need be.  Our goal is $6,000 to help cover competition fees, travel and hotel expenses, and the cost of our dresses and OUSST clothing.

Any type of donation will help us reach our goal, whether that is a $20 donation or a $1 donation.  We are so thankful for the support and love we receive from our friends and families; we couldn't do it without you all.

2014-2015 Season!

Welcome!  I am finally getting around to updating this blog.  Yes, we are deep into the season, but no matter, as we have not even gotten to our first competition yet.  We were supposed to travel to Michigan the weekend before Thanksgiving, but due to bad weather, we had to turn around.

However, this is good!  We have had a bunch of extra time to clean up and fine tune our program and it really showed at our competition this last weekend in Fraser, Michigan.  We placed 4th out of 6th, which I would argue is due to a fall.  One judge gave us a 2nd, which is always nice to see.  Our results will be posted at the bottom of this blog.

This year, we welcomed five new freshman to our family.  We have 12 girls on our team this year, and we are closer than ever.  Our theme is Greek, which is a completely different feel and style than last years dark Inception theme.  I will post pictures of our make up and hair.

Our next competition is Sectionals in Edina, Minnesota.  For those who are wondering how long of a drive that is for us, it is 13 hours and 30 minutes.  Needless to say, we will be bringing DVDs for the long bus ride.

Make sure to subscribe to this blog by entering your email so you can get weekly updates on what we are up to!
